Further Threats

  • Great harm will be caused to a wildlife habitat, sheltering rare and threatened species.
  • A multitude of fruit trees and bushes will be lost.
  • Out of 33 trees, 23 will be felled on a site with mature Holm Oak, Hawthorn, Holly, Ash and more.
  • Without long term commitment of tenure for allotments that remain, they could be lost in the future.
  • Asset of Community Value status is in place until 2025. This records that the site “furthers social wellbeing and social interests of the local community and that the land is of community value”.
  • The site is designated as Local Open Green Space, intended to protect its setting and nature conservation qualities.
  • The local area is already densely built, with thousands more properties approved or in the planning stage, most with no growing space.
  • Pollution would increase from a new road off Snowy Fielder Waye, increased traffic, and this build when the Council’s intention is to increase biodiversity and green the borough..
